UK HSE Releases Technical Report on Talc
The UK HSE (Health and Safety Executive) has published its January 2026 Technical Report on the Classification and Labelling of Talc (not containing asbestos or asbestiform fibres). It was concluded that talc should be classified as STOT RE1; H372 (lungs, inhalation) and Carc. 1B; H350. The Agency does not consider the available data are sufficient to support classification for carcinogenicity.

Australia's TGA Publishes Statement on Sunscreen Labelling
On 23rd January 2026, Australia's TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration) released a statement on sunscreen labelling practices. The statement clarifies requirements for labelling sunscreen products and ARTG (Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods) listing. The TGA has reportedly contacted suppliers and retailers whose sunscreen products have discrepancies between their ARTG listing and labels.

New Jersey Signs PFAS Ban Into Law
On 12th January 2026, Governor Murphy signed into law New Jersey's 'Protecting Against Forever Chemicals Act'. This Bill prohibits the sale of cosmetics (and other consumer products) containing intentionally added PFAS and will take effect on 12th January 2028.
UK Amends Cosmetic Products Regulation
On 15th January 2026, 'The Cosmetic Products Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 (Restriction of Chemical Substances) (Amendment and Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2026' was laid before UK Parliament. 4-MBC is added to Annex 2 (prohibited substances), along with sixteen CMR substances.
